WellOur wedding day. It was mixed with lots of emotions BUT it was Mixed with A LOT of humor too. It definitely fit our personalities!!! First off let’s get it out. We got married the same day we graduated from college…there now you can tell us how crazy we are BUT it worked best for us! So may things happened our wedding day. Lets start with the hubby..He lost his pants…yes he looked and his suit pants weren’t in his closet so his wonderful brother ran to the mall and got him a brand new pair…. Then our fish didn’t show up…friends were going to get gold fish for the center pieces on the tables..Didn’t happen so friends of ours went and got them… Then there was the pastor who asked Who gives this man…Hubby’s mom chirped up and said we do..Everyone held their breath…UNTIL I laughed….The pastor corrected himself. My dad answered and sat down..Hubby was left to lift my veil However my dad remembered he was supposed to dot hat Jumped up put my veil back kidded me and sat down Then there was the unity candle…with which i splashed myself with HOT wax all up my arm! My ring bearer almost puked on my gown and we have a ton of pictures of our hug before Hubby Kissed me! Despite all of this we laughed! Matter of fact we are STILL laughing!!! We left for our three week honeymoon..which also had two mishaps we laugh about today…Hubby got a ticket in Harrisburg while trying to get to the capital building…The painted arrow said we could turn one way..A tiny sign said we couldn’t. Guess which one we didn’t see and then there was the locking our keys in the car in Lancaster…Praise the Lord we had GM service! Despite all of the mishaps and no it wasn’t perfect we had a wonderful time and we have some great atories to tell our kids and grandkids!

SWAK CARNIVAL-Part 3 Our engagement
Okay so at this point you are probably wondering that if we didn’t have a first date did we bother to get engaged …the answer is YES! October 11 2002..It was a Saturday. Hubby wanted to propose the day before so It would be 7 months to the day of our wedding…BUT hubby was an RA so he had to stay till all the other guys left for fall break! So Saturday morning we headed to my parents house in NE Pennsylvania. IT was cold and Dreary…AND VERY WET! Hubby had said that i would need lots of warm clothing but by the end I still ended up wearing his coat and his jacket….His intention was to take me on a hike at a state park near where I grew up and went to many times as a kid. There is a loop of trails that is littered with a ton of waterfalls. HOWEVER in this particular state park there have been numerous tragedies when it rains and people try to hike the falls! So we opted to just go down the hill and see the smallest one..and we went back to the van…We ate lunch and he asked me to go back with him….So at this point I need to explain some of our boundaries that we had set up so you will understand the significance of the following events. Our rules for courtship 1. No kissing until the end of our wedding ceremony 2. No true hugs until the day of our engagement and then only for that day 3. Only side hugs, holding hands and linked arms 4 no tickling So that being said when we were back down at the fall…Hubby wrapped his arms around me which at that point didn’t feel like much since I had 4 layers plus my regular clothes on…and whispered in my ear will you marry me..I said yes and we walked back to the van. (no he didn’t get down on one knee and there was no ring) He then pulled out he roses. They were beautiful..he then climbed the back seat and pulled out his violin case. tuned it and played a french Love song..(THAT IS THE NAME OF THE SONG!) Then there was one more gift. It was beautifully wrapped…..I opened it …I was a beatiful Jewelry box he had made for me….Actually he had made one for his mom and his grandma and for his brothers future wife….We all have matching ones Inside it’s two drewers is lined with red velvet. The top drawer had notes written by hubby to me and in the bottom drwer was a little black velvet box In the velvet box was the most beautiful ring I had ever seen. It was white gold with a heart shaped stone in it.. the setting is very low just like i liked (my hands are VERY tiny…My ring size is a size 4) and it was plain and simple and very elegant…he knew the ring wasn’;t what mattered to me it was just the icing on the cake….. Stay tuned for part 4
SWAK CARNIVAL-PART 2 our first date
This is so easy to tell about–because we never had a first date. We weren’t dating type of people….It was more like a beautiful friendship that grew into a mutual fondness and love for one another. After my summer of resolving not to date anyone else from that Bible College and to have a great time with my friends I came back refreshed and renewed! My first month was great. Every Sunday evening I would get back from church and Hubby was on security..he worked as the evening Security Gaurd and graveyard shift security guard… We talked about what the pastor had spoken on. We enjoyed talking together and one day i knew something wasn’t quite right. He looked at me differently. We sat in the cool grass waiting for the church van to pick us up for church and all of a sudden I was covered in GRASS.. he had thrown grass at me! I was shocked and scared…HE WAS FLIRTING! I tried to hook him up with my roommate and I cried to a dear friend….He would choose to sit next to me at everymeal and I was not sure what to do…I DID NOT want anyone any time soon! Well that night after I criend to a friend about my lack of readiness he and I talk and he basically told me I don’t like you like that….Then I was mad….GO FIGURE! We didn’t speak for some time. I was upset that he sat with another girl in church and so …i am not sure what happened next but I basically came clean and told him I was mad at him…It blew his mind…he and the other girl had been friends since they were very young! Needless to say there came a day when we had to start somewhere. That was a big day. Hubby is a genious. He is so very smart. While in Bible College he got a 4.0 in a semester when he took 30 credits…That 24 from our college and 6 correspondence through moody. He squeezed 4 years of college into 2 and a half and took Greek and Hebrew at the dame time and STILL got a 4.0. So needless to say he NEVER skipped a class. Well one day he left some chocolate in my box and went to go get some sleep after he worked the midnight to four shift on security. What I didn’t know was that he was driving to my parents house to talk to them. He was meeting with them to ask permission to court me with the intention to marry me the following year! When I got out of class he said he would be there so i waited and waited and waited. He didn’t show up Finally i founf my roommates boyfriend and asked if he (hubby) had borrowed his can…..My roommates boyfriend is a bad liar…So I knew something was up. Finally i saw hubby roll in …in that guys car…I stared asking questions…I had to drop something off in the academic affairs building and as we were entering Hubby’s mentor was exiting and he said…”So everything went well ” To which I saw hubby frantically shake his head and draw his fingure across his neck…Okay so now I knew soemthing was up! So after I dropped of my paperwork the questions began to fly/ and he said lets go for a walk! Just off campus the was a quite place that we liked to sit and look at a river. As we sat there He slipped his arm around my shoulders and told me he loved me and asked if I would court him with the intention of marrying him in a year! And I said yes! Tomorrow will be the story of our engagement!
SWAK CARNIVAL! Part 1 How we Met
First off let me say a huge Thanks to Monica for letting me in on this fun Valentines Carnival! How great it is to share our own personal love stories. My personal belief is why read someones else’s romance navels when you are writing your own EVERY DAY! (there is much more to this conviction but that is another post entirely!) Hubby and I met My Sophomore year of College. We attended a Bible College in New York State! We actually didn’t meet through college but through the church we attended. This is a small feat since the school only had 250 students at the time and EVERYBODY KNEW EVERYBODY. I knew two things about hubby back before he was hubby…and that was he had red hair (a huge Plus) and that he plays the violin beautifully! Well we worked in the AWANA program together and he took over the yellow team for me. I was dating someone else at the time and was at the end of that relationship. It was a hurtful relationship. One evening the other guy had to go home and help his parents for the weekend and I had a ministry opportunity with the AWANA program…I asked the boyfriend if I could ride with the red-haired fellow and apparently he didn’t feel threatened and he said yes. SO…I rode with Hubby to the AWANA game night with my hands under my lap and staring at the dash board of his astro van. A few weeks later hubby would be the first to know I broke up with the boyfriend as we Participated in Color Wars together….That was our college’s way to deal with end of the year finals week. Lots of fun activities to deal with the stress. I was on the winning team the year before but this year was going to be difficulty..I was captain of the red team along with another gal and we only had 4 participators so hubby and I saw each other everyday for one activity. At the end of the week I left for home In Pennsylvania and he left for home in the Rochester Area. By the end of the summer I had resolved that I wouldn’t date anyone else from the school and that my soul purpose just as it was when i came to college was to focus on ministry and to enjoy my friends….and that’s exactly what I did starting my junior year! Stay tuned to find out about my first date……
